He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
Micah 6:8
When is the last time you set out, on purpose, and went for a walk with God?
Your personal relationship with God is important, right? But what does that mean? What does it look like moment by moment to live out a personal relationship with God?
I once had a preacher friend tell me that it was not right for people to invite Christ into our hearts. He said that there was nothing in the Bible to instruct people to do that. I am not sure why he believed that in light of this Bible verse:
That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
(Ephesians 3:17-19)
This is extreme. If a person believes in Jesus, Christ lives in their heart. This is intimate. I repeat, this is extreme.
This is much more than a personal relationship. When a man marries a women, the Bible says that the two become one flesh. When a person believes in Jesus Christ, the two become much, much more.
Not only does Christ live in a believer’s heart, but the Holy Spirit lives there, too.
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
(1 Corinthians 6:20)
It is hard to understand how we as believers have gotten used to being inhabited by the Holy Spirit. We must have grown callused. Is this not an extreme thought, and an extreme state of being? We are inhabited by Christ and His Holy Spirit. Extreme.
There is a recent story of a Louisiana woman who did not know she was pregnant until she was in labor. It is a news story because it is so rare. Most ladies know when they are pregnant. Most eventually feel the baby move. The majority have no problem realizing when there is another being living inside them. Do we not as Christians feel the Spirit move within us?
Christ dwells in us. His Holy Spirit abides within us. Not only this, but God’s Word is alive and is inside us, with us. I assert once again, this is extreme.
The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
Jesus in John 6:63
How about taking some time today, and go on a walk with God? Commune with Christ who lives in your heart. Talk to the Holy Spirit who longs to guide you. Live out the words of Christ that move within you. Walk humbly with your God, and live the extreme life in Christ.
