Impossible to Amazing

Impossible into amazing through Christ.

As I write this, I am still serving as senior pastor full-time. I was in the hospital three times this week visiting and praying dear members and friends of our church. I preached last evening at my church on how we ought to seek to please Christ, and not ourselves. All this would have seemed totally impossible to my younger self. Impossible. Absolutely impossible!

When I was a teenager, I was so shy that when my mom told me to call the library to see what time they closed, I wilted. I didn’t want to do it. I was afraid to talk to people over the phone. When I finally relented and made the phone call, I freaked out when the librarian answered the phone. I became so flustered that I hung up on her. My younger self would have thought it impossible for me to speak to hundreds of people from a pulpit on a weekly basis. Impossible!

The Impossible Gets Amazing When You Add Christ

Then I got saved. Born again. Redeemed. Converted. However you want to say it, Jesus came into my heart. The things that seemed impossible to me began to become amazing. Amazing!

Quit my secular job with a great income, retirement, vacation, medical, dental and vision insurance because there was an opportunity to work for my church? They said the benefits were out of this world, but how could I live on such a low salary? Impossible! With the encouragement of my dear wife, we did it anyway. Amazing!

It wasn’t always easy to make ends meet, but God took care of us. We crisscrossed the US and Canada homeschooling and raising support to move our family of eight to a third-word country. Impossible? No, amazing!

God got us to Bolivia, South America. We learned a new language. We planted a church. It seemed impossible when we first got there, but God made it truly amazing!

The church God established became completely indigenous and completely self-supporting. To many other missionaries (and even myself) this seemed impossible, but actually it was amazing.

Impossible into Amazing, Again and Again

So now, after serving as pastor in the US for almost seven years, He prompted me to reach the isolated and hard to reach around the world for Christ.

  • How am I going to raise the necessary support to properly take care of my family?
  • How am I going to raise additional support for special projects?
  • How are we going to plant churches in difficult places where the people are so spread out and isolated?

I am going forward not because I am a hero. I am going forward because I have seen with my own eyes God take things that seem impossible and turn them into amazing. It’s that simple.

Has God taken things in your life that seemed impossible and turned them into amazing? I’m sure He has. That’s because, He is amazing. Amen?
